Makes You Think

The 16 yr old girl in this crash is the niece of the excavator operator on site here at Holden. She had an air pocket in the tail section to breathe and managed to get out the door. The wings almost bent enough to block the doors from opening. The pilot escaped out the windshield that popped out as the plane went up on its nose and plowed through the water. The man that died saved his wife, and then went down with the plane trying to save the other woman. He never got her safety belt loose and just ran out of time. Scary.

doggie sleepover update

Nollie and Madison discovered they could play wrestle each other at about 10 PM. This was fine because it burned a lot of energy. Madison had problems sleeping in a strange house and woke up every 2 hours to bring me toys. She must not be allowed on the bed at her house because she wouldn't jump up no matter how much Nollie and I tried to get her to come. At 5 AM I awoke for the third time to Nollie and Madison wrestling. This is not so cute when you haven't had a good night's sleep. They seemed to be having a lot of fun though. Nollie looked really sad when I took Madison back home this morning. I think she wants a sister.

doggie sleepover

I'm dog-sitting for our friends Ben and Sarah while they are at an earthquake conference in California (they both work with Mike). Madison is sleeping over tonight. We had a pretty big day at the the dog park and then visiting Steve. Nollie and Madison get along great and we haven't had too many problems. Two dogs are fun, but they require twice the attention! It will be interesting to see how bedtime goes.

Da Bears

So I'm up at Holden, WA for work.

It's about a 4 hr drive, then a 1.5 hr boat ride, and finally a 45 min. bus ride to get there from Seattle, WA.

Holden Village has their own bowling alley, but you have to set the pins and return the ball manually.

Yesterday while working on an exploration near a creek a black bear tried to cross the foot bridge to where we were working. I was on the bank checking something, and when I came up it saw me and ran away. The bear got within about 30 feet of me, and I think may have been trying to steal my Chicago Bears baseball hat off my backpack. Anyway it ran away and went downstream about a hundred yards. Then went out on some logs in the stream and jumped. Apparently, the water was deeper than it expected and it floated away downstream for a ways.

The End.

happiest girl ever

New Kids on the Block are back!

The X-Files sequel, The X-Files: I Want to Believe, is being released in July!

Mike didn't know me back in the NKOTB days or in the Fox Mulder days - this could be a shock to him.

Drinks on the Links

That's right. It's time for Drinks on the Links again. Last night was the first night of league play. Highlights include:
1. I got a hole in one!
2. PBR was flowing from the keg.
3. We only had 2 boys since Mike was working and Jon was sick. In order to qualify we claimed baby boy Rice as a player!
4. Our team theme for next week is PJ night.

Jen and Daren and baby boy Rice

Baby boy Rice is due the last week of league play (June 13). It will be interesting to see how far Jen can make it. And if he comes early, he will be our mascot (or if we're short boys a player)!

Project Kitchen 2008

I'm home sick today with a sore throat. Yuk! I slept in until 11 then found a mini crowbar Mike left for me before he went to work. Needless to say, we no longer have wainscoting in our kitchen! Check out the Say Uncle! post for a picture of kitchen with the ugly wainscoting.

without the ugly wainscoting

So a positive is that the wainscoting wasn't glued on, which was our fear. The negatives are I have a lot of nail holes to spackle and I'm super tired since I did this while I was sick. It was worth it because the kitchen is going to look so much better with shamrock green walls!

I'll keep you posted on our progress.
