Aunt Sarah & Uncle Mike

Lydia Jo was born June 20th at 4:42 PM central. She weighed 3 lb 15 oz and measured 16 in long. All reports indicate Lydia and Amy are both doing well. Mike and I wish we could have been there to meet our niece on her birthday, but we will be back in Wisconsin for a visit soon.

Holy Hipper

No, not hipster. Hipper.

The Lower Woodland Skatepark officially opened a couple weeks ago. Mayor Nickels was there.

Mayor Nickels appears at the Lower Woodland Skatepark before heading to court.

There were also grown men jumping over garbage cans.

Don't know who this guy is. Let's just call him better than me.

After the grand opening gala, I took my crack at the park that Sunday. It's a lot of fun. The bowl is steep and fast. Every transition goes to vert no matter how short it is, and it's a lot different than the Ballard Bowl. I managed to do some backside grinds in both sections of the shallow end and in the deep end, so I was happy. The street skating was fun too, but I was a bit rusty having not done that in about a year and a half.

Then I decided to skate last Friday morning before work. That's when I received the hipper while skating the pool. I thought I was doing well, then I came through the shallow end, body extended while on the tile, hit the coping with both trucks, and fell five feet down and about 10 mph or so into the bottom of the adjacent transition. Hurt enough to make me think I could have broken my hip, but really I knew it was just a sweet bruise. So I walked around for a while. Then cruised around a bit on my board. Finally, decided to drop back into the pool for a mellow run. All was going well until I made a lazy bail and clocked my left ankle bone with my deck for a nice bone bruise, on the same side as the hipper. Sweet. No more skating until Wednesday or so. I'd show you a picture of the bruise, but it has yet to make it to the surface. The entire bruise is about the size of my hand, like if I were to put my hand inside my hip.

In other news the moustache marathon is going on day 23 and still kickin' ass. My friend from work is doing an Ironman this weekend, though. So that's my next moustache related goal (140.6 days).

We were in the playoffs for Drinks on the Links last night. We started the night in second place and ended up in second place - losing by one stroke. Again. The same exact thing happened to us last year! Anyway, it was pirate night. Here is Nollie rocking part of Mike's costume this morning.

Furry 5K

Nollie and I participated in the Furry 5K today at Seward Park. It was fun and Nollie did a great job not acting like a turd (for the most part).

Here is her most turdly moment:
Water was handed out at the 2 mile mark. Humans had water in cups and dogs had water in kiddie pools. Nollie has a phobia about drinking dirty water that other dogs have already drank out of, so she refused to drink. She just looked at the pools of water and then jumped in! Which makes me laugh because when we had the kiddie pool on Eugenia she never got in by herself. I dragged her out of the pool and then poured the rest of my water into her mouth so she a least had a little something to drink. Everyone was laughing. I was a embarrassed. Although, I'm sure she wasn't the only dog who did that today.

Moustache Marathon: Day 9

Skateboarding "season" started up for me about a week ago. It was a prolonged snowboarding season (Alpental's lifts ran until Memorial Day) with lots of powder, but it's time to move on. I hit up the Ballard Bowl a few times so far; however, I'm most excited about the grand opening of the Lower Woodland Skatepark (I haven't skated it yet, despite what the article says). It will be nice to have a street section and a bowl with some nice pool tile. I'm still trying to cleanup the garage and figure our my plans for a mini-ramp at home, as well.

Sadly, bowling season is on strike, and that's not sweet pun or anything. I just don't have a local place to bowl anymore.

On the home improvement front: our surround sound speakers are mounted and working. Sarah could not find any shelves she liked, so I just anchored them straight to the wall. One is anchored in our chimney and the other in just the lathe and plaster with wires running through the walls, the basement, and a heating duct.

I still have a moustache, though I don't think Sarah's too happy about.

Picture of me at work with my whiteboard. It used to be a quote of (the) day, but then Chris referred to two of our social butterfly friends as the man-couple, so I changed it. The the is missing courtesy of Matt, who's whiteboard I took after he left.

On another work related note, we just got smartphones. So now I can read my e-mail while sitting on the toilet and get paid for it (no picture available).

Other than that I tied a company record by working 99 hrs in the "timesheet week" I was up at Holden. Great. It's nice to be back, though it was pretty much sensory overload upon coming back to the city. I also (re-) learned vacation is more a state of mind than a place. Here are some pictures of my "vacation."

Lady of the Lake - this was my transportation up Lake Chelan to Lucerne.

View from the Lady.

Upon arrival at Lucerne you get on an old bus to ride up to Holden Village.

A retired electrical engineer who drives a bus. Sorry, dad. Jeans required. No sweatpants.

View of burned forest from last year's Domke Lake fire on the ride up (and down). I believe Holden Village was evacuated to a skeleton crew because the fire threatened their access/egress, though it did not threaten the village itself.

Remnants of controlled backfires set by the forest service to reduce fuel for the fire and prevent it from climbing up the mountain.

After a 45 min. bus ride you arrive at the abandoned Holden Mine. Holden Village is one of the areas where the miners used to live, eat, and recreate. Holden Village is the buildings at about the left center of the frame. View of Holden Mine looking east.

View of Holden Mine looking west.

Abandoned mill building.

Holden's own bowling alley. Ballard's got nothing on Holden, WA.

Holden Village is a Lutheran based religious retreat. One night a group activity involved toy soldier modification.

Modified toy soldiers.

Though there was little time for recreation, I did hike to Ten Mile Creek Falls.

As well as Monkey Bear Falls.

Then I took some pictures from Lucerne while waiting for the notoriously late Lady of the Lake.

Finally, a picture from the Lady on the ride back to Field's Point before the 4-hour drive back to Seattle.

Brazil vs. Canada

Last night I went to the Brazil vs. Canada soccer match at Qwest Field. It was a pretty evenly matched game for most of the night but Brazil ended up winning
3-2.

Seattle is gearing up for next year. We are getting an expansion team in the MLS - the Seattle Sounders FC. I'm excited!

mustache night

After three weeks of Drinks on the Links we are currently in second place. This past Wednesday was mustache night. They're hard to see, but we girls have mustaches drawn on our faces and the guys all grew them for the occasion. Mike is still rocking his.
